Park Place F.A.Q.
When is it finally time to search for a nursing home/Long Term care facility?
To recognize the need of placement, there are many
factors to consider and people that can help with this decision. More than
likely you have seen changes in the person's physical status, or their mental
status. Your family member’s physician will be of great assistance and most
facilities have a social worker that is available and the director is a good
resource as well. Also in some cases the individual may desire to admit
themselves to remove the burden from family in having to make this
determination.
What should I look for
in a Long Term Care facility?
There are many web sites that can assist you to “hone” in on the necessities in finding an appropriate environment. Are there restrictions on visiting? Is there a dietician on hand? How about physical therapy? If they have a doctor’s appointment who would arrange for transportation if necessary?
How will it be paid for?
Possibly the individual had the foresight to enroll in a long-term care policy? Maybe their employer offered it in their company program? What will Medicare & Medicaid cover?
What about my guilt of putting a loved one into a care center? And how can I help them adjust?
I promised my parent I would never put them into a “home”, but I know in my heart that they are just unable to live alone & I am not physically able to care for them in my own home.
