Visitors
Only two
visitors are allowed in the ASU at a time. It is a small
area, and gets very crowded if more come in. While you are
in surgery, visitors may wait in the surgery waiting area to
speak with the surgeon after your procedure.
After Surgery
Your
surgeon will talk with your family after your surgery is
complete. This is often occurs before the patient leaves the
operating room. If your anesthetic requires that you go to
the Recovery Room, you will be there approximately 1 hour.
This can vary greatly depending upon the type of surgery,
anesthetic, comfort and each individual’s response to
surgery. When you are able to leave the Recovery Room, you
will be taken either back to ASU or to a room on the nursing
unit. The Recovery Room nurses or ASU nurses will notify
your family after you have been transferred. Visitors are
not allowed in the Recovery Room except in the case of
children up to 16 years of age.
If your
visitors would like to take a break to run an errand or get
something to eat, that is fine. Please have them notify the
ASU staff so that we know where they are when your surgery
is complete.
You will be
given written and oral instructions upon discharge. Be sure
to follow these carefully. You will not be allowed to drive
yourself home after surgery, and it is recommended that
someone stay with you for 24 hours after you return home.
