SHIIP: Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) volunteers are located on the Henry County Health Center campus in the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) office. Thye are present every Tuesday between the hours of 9 a.m. and noon, according to pre-set personal appointment times. This service is free to the general public, but people wishing to schedule an appointment should call 319-385-6739 in advance.
Advantages of the program are the personalized counseling time to review the different plans available as well as clients' personal medication lists and questions. The local program is sponsored by Healthy Henry County Communities and is a program of Henry County RSVP.
SHIIP was created in 1990 in response to the statewide need for senior health insurance information. SHIIP provides free informational materials as well as one-to-one assistance with Medicare Coverage, Medicare supplement insurance, long-term care insurance, Medicare and insurance claims and other related issues. SHIIP does not recommend insurance companies, plans or agents; the volunteers answer questions and provide impartial information to help seniors make well-informed decisions.
