November ’17 Message from the CEO

Henry County Health Center | November 30th, 2017

Hi everyone. I hope you had an enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday. I thought I would start with a couple of service lineRobb Gardner reviews.

The health center is continuing to provide the highest level of care for our women’s health patients. Kari Payne, CNM and Kendra Bonnesen, FNP, CNM are continuing to provide outstanding care with our OB nurses.  We have been very fortunate to be continuing to work with Dr. Michael Ryskin, OB/GYN and Dr. Eduardo Ricaurte, OB/GYN as our primary two locum OB/GYN providers who are working in collaboration with our two certified nurse-midwives.  We are still actively recruiting for a new OB/GYN.  We have had one OB/GYN in for an interview and have planned to bring in another OB/GYN for another interview over the coming weeks.  As of this time, these are the only two physicians who have shown interest in our opportunity.  We will remain optimistic that we will be successful in our recruitment efforts.

Dr. Tim Monson and Dr. John Phillips from Great River Health Systems have been providing outreach surgical services until HCHC’s General Surgeon Dr. Michelle Tansey returns from an extended leave. Dr. Mike McCoy, Great River Health Systems Obstetrician/Gynecologist, has also continued to provide outreach gynecology services at HCHC. For more information or to schedule appointments with these providers, please call 319-385-6770.

We are continuing to work with the Henry County Board of Health on the transition to move Public Health services back to Henry County. I really appreciate the support and leadership by the Board of Health and our county’s leaders to assist in this transition.  Their efforts have assisted in trying to make this change for our staff as smooth as possible.  I appreciate the staff’s hard work, communication and support during the transition.  They are committed to continuing to provide the highest level of care and service to their patients.  I would also like to take this time to thank Patti Sallee for her leadership over the last year.  Patti will be leaving her role as the Public Health Director to take a new opportunity which is closer to her family.  Thank you, Patti, for all of your efforts and hard work and I would like to wish you the very best in the future.  During this transition, Shelley Van Dorin has agreed to be the interim Public Health Director.  Shelley will do a great job.  Shelley has many years of Public Health experience and has filled this role on an interim basis before and will assure programs and services will continue to be delivered in an outstanding manner.  Thank you, Shelley, for your leadership.

This past month, three members of the HCHC team had the opportunity to speak to the state of Iowa Legislative Oversight Committee of the Managed Care Organizations which administer the Medicaid program here in Iowa. As I have shared in recent updates, the impact to our health center with this transition has been significant.  If you would like to see our presentation to the oversight committee, please click on this link to view in more detail. I would like to thank Dave Muhs, our CFO, Charlie Hammel, our Revenue Cycle Director, and Brian Green, principal from SEIM Johnson, HCHC’s Auditor, who were able to join me that day to present to the legislators.  Our hope is the legislators were able to learn in more detail the impact the move to a managed care delivery system for Medicaid in Iowa has had on a rural medical community.

Thanks again for taking the time to read our e-newsletter. Please make sure to look at the current newsletter to review the different events that will be occurring here at the health center that you may find benefit from.  As always, I hope you find it informative and helpful for your health care.  If you should happen to have any questions, please feel free to contact Shelley Doak or myself and we will be happy to follow up with you.
